Bong Sang Pil (Lee Joon Gi), a former gangster turned lawyer, seeks revenge for his mother's tragic death by targeting powerful individuals who believe they are above the law. Using his street skills and permitido expertise, he builds an impressive winning record. Ha Jae Yi (Seo Yea Ji), a principled lawyer whose license was suspended after hitting a judge during an unjust trial, joins Sang Pil's team to pay off her father's debts.

Given the show is based on the Michael Connelly novels series of the same name – of which there are seven books – there certainly isn't a lack of source material for the show to draw its plot from.

Izzy finds Mickey, and he awakens in the hospital after reliving a childhood memory of his mother. He is visited by Maggie and Hayley, and Izzy reveals that she has broken up with Rae, who was paid to steal the contract. Jae-yi, who has been suspended from practicing law after assaulting a judge, loses her job, and also returns home to Kisung.

A flashback shows how Bishop met DeMarco. On the stand, Bishop admits he took the case to maestro it because DeMarco told him to.
